Wilkens scores to secure 2-2 Warriors tie

Caitlin Wilkins scored on a direct kick from 30 yards out with nine minutes remaining and Mohawk Trail Regional High School completed a comeback from a two-goal halftime deficit to tie Smith Academy, 2-2, in an independent girls’ soccer game Saturday in Hatfield.

Hannah Rickert scored twice in the first half to put the Falcons up 2-0 at the break but the Warriors (4-9-1) stormed back in the second half. Hope Lively scored on a pass from Alyse Leonard six minutes into the frame to get the visitors started, and Wilkins finished it off with nine minutes to go when she beat Smith Academy goalie Mackenzie Wilson with a 30-yard bomb.

Sally Slowinski stopped 13 shots in the Mohawk net. Wilson finished with seven saves.

Boys’ soccer

Quabbin 4, Athol 2 — Riley Beaupre scored two goals Saturday and Quabbin Regional High School doubled up Athol High School, 4-2, in an independent boys’ soccer game in Barre.

Bobby Dickson added one goal and two assists for Quabbin, which led 2-0 at the half and extended the lead to 3-0 early in the second. Athol stormed back to make it a one-goal game as Brad Bousquet scored on a penalty kick, and Tanner Pavilionis scored off a feed from Zach Dodge, but Quabbin added a late goal to ice the game.

Jamie Posk made seven saves in the Athol goal.

The Red Raiders (7-6-3) need one point in their final two games to qualify for the postseason. Athol hosts Easthampton High School on Thursday evening and then travels to Mahar Regional School on Oct. 28.

Field hockey

Smith Academy 3, Greenfield 0 — Danielle Duseau scored one goal and assisted on another as Smith Academy defeated Greenfield High School, 3-0, in a North Division field hockey game in Hatfield.

Katie Yagodzinski scored on an assist from Duseau in the first half, and Duseau made it 2-0 before the break. Kelly Ryan added an insurance marker in the second half on an assist from Izzy Duseau. Lauren Bradford stopped the only shot she faced to earn the shutout.

Maureen Fish made four saves in the loss.

Greenfield needs one (7-6-3) point in its final two games to qualify for the tournament. The Green Wave travels to Mahar Regional School tonight at 7, and then heads to Athol High School Wednesday at 7.
