Greenfield Post 81 splits weekend twin bill

Greenfield Post 81 split a weekend American Legion Baseball doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.

After taking a 9-4 victory over Wilbraham in Saturday’s home opener, Greenfield dropped a 9-5 decision to Palmer Sunday morning.

On Sunday, Liam Christian finished with three hits and Tyler Wilson added a single, double and RBI as Palmer handed Greenfield (2-1) its first loss of the young season. Drew Koczur came on in relief of starting pitcher Ryan Swartz, who left with a third-inning injury. Koczur finished with three strikeouts and two walks to earn the win.

Tom Malooly finished with a single, double and RBI in the loss, while Garrett Hudson and Tanner Jillson finished with two hits each.

Sam Tillona suffered the loss, striking out two and walking three in four-plus innings.

• On Saturday, Hudson pitched seven strong innings and helped himself out at the plate with three hits as Greenfield beat Wilbraham, 9-4.

Hudson struck out six and walked five in the complete-game effort, allowing just four hits. He also finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, driving in a run on his double.

Jillson finished with two hits and two RBIs in the win, while Niko Ames and Malooly each added two hits and an RBI. Mike Duclos also collected a pair of hits.

Tri-County League

Manny’s 4, Dream Bats 1 — Austin Finck took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Saturday to help Manny’s TV & Appliance to a 4-1 win over Dream Bats in a Tri-County League baseball game at Somers (Conn.) High School.

Finck allowed a leadoff single to start the sixth and had to settle for a three-hitter. He finished with four strikeouts and four walks in the game.

Manny’s (2-1) gave him plenty of support with three runs in the third inning. The first run of the day came in on a balk, and Greg Vouros hit an RBI single for Manny’s second run. Kyle Henry lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Finck helped himself out in the top of the sixth with an RBI double.

Manny’s hosts Wilbraham Funeral Home tonight at 6 at Vets Field in Greenfield.
