Tournament-bound Hawks drill Panthers

Krystel Enko struck out 14 in a complete-game, five-hitter to lead Frontier Regional School to a 13-3 win over Pioneer Valley Regional School in Franklin County League softball action Monday in Northfield.

Frontier (10-5, 9-4) qualified for the postseason with the victory.

Enko made one poor pitch and Pioneer’s Shea Healy made her pay with a three-run home run in the third inning that gave the Panthers (7-8, 6-6) a short-lived, 3-0 lead. Frontier came back with six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead for good, and added seven more in the seventh to put it out of reach.

Cassidy Stankowski doubled and hit a solo home run for the Red Hawks, while Gwen Thayer tripled and drove in two runs. Caitlin Sullivan, Aly Hamelin and Hannah Adams each registered two hits and two RBIs in the win. McKayla Poissant finished with three hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Healy struck out five and walked two in the loss.

Turners 11, Greenfield 0 — An eight-run third inning broke the game open as Turners Falls High School went on to an 11-0 whitewash of Greenfield High School in a FCL softball contest on Monday night at the Bourdeau Fields Complex in Turners Falls.

Brittany York slapped a two-run single, Amber Caouette roped an RBI double and Jordan Meattey added a two-run single during the uprising.

Tanisha Sanders led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while York added a pair of singles for the Indians (13-1, 10-1).

Sanders and Mackenzie Phillips combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Kelsey Roberts and Danielle Townsley had the Green Wave’s hits.

Elise Brown fanned seven and walked three in the complete-game loss.

Athol 14, Hopkins 2 (6) — Athol High School registered 21 hits Monday to rout Hopkins Academy, 14-2, in six innings of FCL softball action in Athol.

Liz Arpide finished with three hits and three RBIs to pace the Red Raiders. Tessa Neverett registered three hits and two RBIs, while Kiki Guerin, Alexa Whitney and Lexi Hamlett each added two hits and two RBIs.

Trisha Hazen struck out four and did not walk a batter in the win.

Hampshire 15, Mahar 0 — Sarah Abel fired a no-hitter to lead Hampshire Regional High School to a five-inning, 15-0 victory over Mahar Regional School in FCL softball play on Monday in Orange.

Abel fanned four and walked one in her gem.

Paige Sullivan smacked a double, triple and grand slam homer to lead the Red Raiders (12-1, 11-1 FCL). Marissa McCarthy added a single, two doubles and two RBIs, Danielle McGan finished with two singles, a triple and two RBIs, and Anna Dziok doubled, tripled and drove in four runs.

Tiffany Tenney was the losing pitcher.

Mahar (5-10, 1-10) hosts Mohawk today.
