Frontier Regional School recorded three pins and two wins by technical fall to defeat Pioneer Valley Regional School, 47-23, in a Tri-County League wrestling match Wednesday night at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.
Andrew Lankarge, competing at 145 pounds, had the quickest of the Red Hawks’ three falls, as he stopped the Panthers’ Caleb Milton within the first 30 seconds. Ben McGranaghan (133) dropped Pioneer’s Kolby Brown at the 1:35 mark of the opening period, while Kirby Compton-Burch (152) finished off Spencer Ross with 15 seconds left in the first frame.
Ariq Welch (120) recorded an 18-3 victory over the Panthers’ Kade Perotti for the Red Hawks’ first tech fall, while Ryan Chapdelaine (220) overwhelmed Adrian Wilson, 19-4, for the other one.
The Panthers earned a pair of victories in contested matches. Adam LeBlanc (138), who recently reached the career 100-win plateau, registered a third-period pin against the Hawks’ Jake Arnold, while Lukas Rathbun (160) earned a technical fall over Saul Soto, 17-2.
Frontier closed out its TCL campaign with a 2-3 record, while Pioneer wrapped up its campaign at 0-5.
New Leadership 56, FC Tech 20 — New Leadership Charter School retained its lead in the Tri-County League as it overwhelmed Franklin County Technical School, 56-20, in girls’ basketball action Wednesday at Rebecca Johnson Middle School in Springfield.
Tamar Gervais led the Wildcats (11-3 overall, 10-1 TCL) with a game-high 22 points, D’nasia Nichols tossed in 10 and Yani Wiggins contributed 7.
Brooke Meuse and Jasmine Farr-Marcum netted 6 points apiece for the Eagles, who trailed 25-13 at intermission. Megan Aldrich added 5 points.
