Poeblien lifts Hamp over Wave

Emily Poeblien’s goal with 10:30 remaining propelled Northampton High School to a 2-1 independent field hockey victory over Greenfield High School on Monday in Greenfield.

Leah Fagan opened the scoring for the Blue Devils with an unassisted tally 4:31 into the second half.

Alyssa Garvin made her varsity for the Green Wave and scored two minutes after entering the game, and the eighth-grader knocked home a shot from Kelsey Roberts at 10:05.

Garvin had come off the bench to fill in for Tylor Narkewicz, who was struck in the collarbone area by a high ball. Head coach Erin Thayer said the x-rays were negative, but Narkewicz suffered a deep bone bruise and is likely expected to miss 7-10 days.

Northampton held a 7-5 edge in shots and recorded 16 corners to Greenfield’s 5.

Mary Greco made four saves for the Blue Devils, while Diane stopped five shots for the Green Wave (2-7-0).

Agawam 2, Pioneer 0 — Mandy St. Laurent scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Agawam High School to a 2-0 win over Pioneer Valley Regional School in an independent field hockey game Monday in Northfield.

Agawam scored both goals in the first half, and Jordyn Conway stopped four shots to hold Pioneer off the board. St. Laurent set up Casey Noonan with the first goal of the game and then scored an unassisted goal later in the first half.

Emily Walker had a strong game for the Panthers (4-5-1) with 25 saves.

Girls’ volleyball

Frontier 3, FC Tech 0 — Sarah Woodward’s eight kills helped Frontier Regional School beat Franklin County Technical School, 25-11, 25-8, 25-7, in an independent girls’ volleyball match Monday in Turners Falls.

Emma Contois dished out seven assists and Haley Dacyczyn chipped in three assists for the Red Hawks (9-0 overall).

Erica Galipault had three kills and Kirsten Mattson collected three digs, one kill and one ace for the Eagles.

Frontier also won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-17.

Amherst 3, Turners Falls 1 — Hailey Parker registered five blocks and six kills to lead Amherst Regional High School to a 25-22, 25-13, 18-25, 25-17 victory over Turners Falls High School in an independent girls’ volleyball match Monday evening in Turners Falls.

Cassie Long recorded 19 digs for the Hurricanes, and Justine Bohl chipped in 17 assists and six digs.

CeCe Campbell paced the Indians (4-5) with 26 assists, four aces and 10 digs. Tanisha Sanders added five kills, four aces and 13 digs. Shelby Lewis chipped in 12 kills, 14 digs and one ace, and Amber Caouette added six kills and two digs.

“We played well,” Turners coach Kelly Yankowski said. “Our girls are working really hard right now.”

Golf

Frontier 15 1/2, Mahar 8 1/2 — Torsten Nelson swept four points to lead Frontier Regional School to a 15 1/2-8 1/2 win over Maghar Regional School in independent golf action Monday at Petersham Country Club.

Match medalist Nate Patterson (45) added 3 1/2 points and Ben Ruddock and Dan Persons both contributed three points for the Red Hawks (4-5-1).

Zack Adams and Collin Mailloux each scored three points for the Senators (1-5-1).
