Junior Legion stays alive, 8-1

Greenfield Post 81 moved on in the American Legion Baseball Junior Department Championships with an 8-1 victory Monday over Falmouth Post 250 at Landers Field in South Hadley.

The game was a continuation of Sunday’s suspended contest at Szot Park in Chicopee, and was moved to Landers Field because Szot was unplayable.

Tyler Charboneau pitched three innings of relief to earn the win for Greenfield. Charboneau, who last pitched 10 days ago for the Senior Legion squad, allowed just one hit and struck out three.

Julian Diamond and Nate Crocker led the winning effort, as each collected two hits and scored three times. Brandon Bryant and Andrew Toritto both finished with one hit and two RBIs, while Tyler Townsley added a pair of hits.

Charboneau, Townsley, Zach Wright and Ben Poirier combined to hold Falmouth to four hits on the day.

Post 81 will have today off and return to Szot Park on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to face the loser of today’s winner’s bracket final between Braintree Post 286 and host Chicopee Post 452.
