Bulletin Board: GHS Alumni Game nears

The Greenfield High School Alumni Game is scheduled for June 27 at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.

Fromer Greenfield baseball players interested in playing are asked to show up by 5:30. All former players are welcome, whether they choose to play or not.

Women’s softball

Pioneer Valley League

Hannah Dodge and Heather Herzig both went 3-for-3 to help Foxtown Cubs beat Shelburne Falls, 16-14, in a Pioneer Valley Women’s Softball League game Thursday night at Cricket Field in Buckland.

Irissa Powell went 2-for-2 for the Cubs.

Nichole Valeski went 3-for-4 with a triple and Jenny Dawson was 2-for-2 with a triple for Shelburne Falls.

• Elsewhere, Samantha Davis went 3-for-3 and Meg Lilly singled, doubled and scored twice as Ashfield downed Conway, 6-1, in Conway.

Kristen Ouellette was 2-for-2 and Ali Gryncewicz roped an RBI triple for Conway.

Co-rec softball

Montague League

Alex Dawicki went 3-for-3 to help Montague Mini Storage defeat Artscape Landscaping, 8-5, in a Montgaue Co-Rec Softball League game Thursday night at Green River Park in Greenfield.

Don Demers added two hits and Charlene Sakowicz singled for MMS.

• Elsewhere, Between the Uprights rolled past Main Street Bar & Grille, 28-8.

Brad Stafford and Danielle Marie each had four hits and Zack Taylor added three hits for BTU.

Babe Ruth

Kiernan Freeman collected two hits and three RBIs to help Turners Falls Athletic Club edge Tognarelli Heating & Cooling, 8-6, in a Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League game Thursday night at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.

Tanner Jones was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and George Balis was the winning pitcher.

Jonathan LaClair singled and knocked in a run, and Damian Willor singled an scored for Tognarelli.

Road racing

Northfield Series

Seamus Garland recorded a time of 22 minutes, 35 seconds to win the weekly Northfield Road Race Series on Thursday in Northfield.

Jacob Erely finished second on the 3.3-mile course in 23:52. Clayton Garland finished third in 24:05, while Paul Nicolson took fourth (24:12).

Abby Wheeler was fifth overall and the first female finisher with a time of 25:01. Cassandra Bigelow was the second female finisher and 10th overall (27:50).

Golf

CFC women’s

Mace Foehl carded a low-gross 44 to win the Three-Clubs-and-a-Putter Tournament during Crumpin-Fox Women’s Golf League play Wednesday in Bernardston.

Lora Gross posted a 36 for low net.

Gross was closest to the pin on No. 3 (13 feet, 3 inches). Diane Griffin was closest on No. 9 (80-0).

Montague 10s tag sale

The Montague 10-and-under baseball tournament team will hold a tag sale Saturday at Campbell and Gamelin Fields in Turners Falls to raise money to cover the cost of their tournaments.

The tag sale will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Anyone interested in donating items to be sold can call 413-834-2698 or 413-824-0901.

Football

Greenfield Suburban signups

The Greenfield Youth Football League will hold signups for the upcoming season on Saturday as well as June 28 and July 12, 19 and 26 at the Montague Police Station from 10 a.m. until noon. Players can also sign up at Beacon Field in Greenfield every Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Players in grades 3 through 8 from all surrounding towns are eligible for the team and every player is guaranteed two quarters of playing time and all equipment is provided. Seventh- and eighth-graders have a half-price registration fee.

• The team will also hold a pair of fundraisers at the end of June: a Bingo Night on June 26 at 6 at the Montague Elks Lodge, then a bottle and can drive at Ruggeri’s in Greenfield on June 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Basketball

EDGE Summer Clinic

The EDGE Basketball Clinic will run in two sessions from June 30 through July 11.

The first session runs from June 30 to July 3 and the second session runs from July 7 to July 11. Each day runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The clinic is open to players in grades 3 through 9 and costs $120 for the first week and $150 for the second. Players attending both weeks will get $10 off per week and families with multiple children attending will get the $10 per week discount. The objective of the clinic is to teach fundamentals, skills, concepts of basketball and to have fun.

Summer clinics

A Summer Ultimate Intensive will be held at Four Rivers Charter School from June 30 through July 3 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Open for ages 12 through 16, this will be a fun summer camp that includes a July 3 field trip. For more information, visit:

PV pole vault school

The Pioneer Valley Pole Vault School in Bernardston is open by appointment for individual and group lessons through the fall with negotiable rates.

Lessons will be taught by Pioneer Valley Regional School track and Northfield Mount Hermon pole-vault coach Jim Bell, himself a Masters pole vaulter.
