Greenfield boys awarded second seed

The Greenfield High School boys’ tennis team earned the second seed in the Western Massachusetts Division III Boys’ Tennis Tournament when the seeds were announced Tuesday morning at Sabis International Charter School in Springfield.

Two local boys’ teams and two local girls’ teams discovered their fates on Tuesday, as the girls’ seeds were announced at Lenox High School.

Greenfield (14-2) picked up the second seed in the six-team Division III boys’ field and earned an automatic bye into the semifinals, where it will host the winner of the quarterfinal match between third-seeded Belchertown High School (12-7) and sixth-seeded Turners Falls High School (9-4). Turners and Belchertown will play Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Belchertown, and the semifinal against Greenfield is scheduled for Monday.

Mt. Greylock Regional High School (14-1) earned the top seed in the field.

On the girls’ side, Greenfield and Frontier Regional School were part of the 10-team Western Massachusetts Division III field. Greenfield (12-3) earned the seventh seed and hosts 10th-seeded Pioneer Valley Christian School in a first-round match Thursday afternoon at 3. Frontier (8-6) picked up the ninth seed and heads to eighth-seeded Lee High School (10-5) Thursday afternoon at 3:30.

South Hadley High School (15-4) is the top seed in the girls’ field.
