Bulletin Board: Poplar Hill storms back, 7-6

Josiah Boyden’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth capped off a five-run rally to lead Poplar Hill Machine to a 7-6 victory over Polish Americas Citizens Club in a Frontier Cal Ripken Major Division youth baseball game Thursday night at Herlihy Park in Whately.

Boyden finished 2-for-3, while Patrick Boyden — who roped a three-run triple in the sixth — also went 2-for-3 and earned the pitching win in relief. Poplar starter Alec Kirkendall struck out nine in 42⁄ 3 innings.

Gehrig Brynda went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Michael Mendyk added two RBIs for PACC.

Elsewhere, Dylan Royal (double) and Kevin Baumann both logged two hits and two RBIs to help Alber Hearing Services edge Paciorek Electric, 7-5, in Sunderland.

Ben Martino, who added two singles, and Kyle Barnes combined for 13 strikeouts in the win.

Owen Morse had a single, double and an RBI, Matt Como added a triple and one RBI, and Ethan Machon and Maxwell Edwards both contributed RBI doubles for Paciorek.

Greenfield Minor League

Julian Trenholm recorded two hits and two RBIs as Denny’s Pantry defeated Maniatty’s Real Estate, 9-2, in a Greenfield Minor League Major Division youth baseball game Thursday night at Lint Field.

Evan Leaf finished with one hit and two RBIs, Dylan Allen, Nate Sciandra and Jack Loud both had a hit and an RBI, and Josiah Beck chipped in two RBIs for the winners.

Winning pitcher Sciandra combined with Loud and Leaf on 13 strikeouts.

Hunter Drost (RBI) and Jared Hubbard finished with two hits apiece for Maniatty’s.

Elsewhere, Smitty’s Pub outlasted Greenfield Elks Lodge, 4-3.

Cam Baird Colby Avery(wp) and Samantha Smith (save) combined for 10 strikeouts.

Kyle White had a hit and an RBI, Samantha Smith, Colby Avery and Colin Brechenser all had singles and Joe Tobin and Brody Baird both knocked in a run for the winners.

Jared Hart clouted a two-run homer and Jake Cote and Cameron Rice each singled for Elks.

Finally, Gilmore-Farrell Insurance bested New Fortune Restaurant, 13-4. Hunter Roberts and Joe Monkiewicz both had two hits, Jordan DiGeorge added a double and winning pitcher Jacob Bryant singled for the winners.

Mason Meadows had two hits, Rauri Maloney doubled and Grayson Funk singled for New Fortune.

TCL minors

Hunter Haughey and Jalen McGraw combined for 13 strikeouts on the mound to lead Northfield Green over Northfield Blue, 6-4, in a Tri-County League Minor Division game Thursday night in Northfield.

Haughey added a single and two-run homer, McGraw and Charlie Boyden both added two singles and Gabe Smith contributed an RBI triple.

Brody Williams smacked a two-run homer and Sean Allen and Jason Quinn each tripled for Blue. Allen and Robby Kenyon struck out 15 in the loss.

Elsewhere, Mowry & Schmidt Bernardston downed Winchester, N.H., 12-4, in a game shortened to four innings due to darkness.

Tanner Rowe and Caleb Seaman both collected a double and an RBI, and Bob Provost added a single and two RBIs in support of winning pitcher Ryan Potter, who fanned 11 in the complete-game effort.

Jackson Truesdell paced Winchester with two singles and two RBIs.



Olivia Whittier laced a triple and drove in three runs as Crocker Communications bested Diamond Dusters, 9-2, in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League game Thursday night at Murphy Park.

Gabby Schmidt scored three runs for the winners.

Autumn Adams struck out 11 and Katie Reynolds and Emily Young both had singles for Diamond Dusters.

Elsewhere, Franklin Orthopaedic edged Pipione’s Sport Shop, 9-8, as Hayley Pelletier and Johanna Gemaraicruz singled and doubled, and Cayley Patenaude added two hits.

Angie Boniauto led Pipione’s with a single, double and two RBIs. Morgan Pendress added two hits and one RBI.

Tri-County League

Michaela Lawyer struck out 14 to lead Brattleboro over Northfield Cougars, 5-2, in a Tri-County League youth softball game Thursday night in Brattleboro, Vt.

Katrina Tao had the only hit for Bratt.

Stephanie Scoville homered and Zara Hervieux doubled for Northfield.


NMH falls to Williston

Williston-Northampton School upended Northfield Mount Hermon School, 5-4, in a prep softball game Thursday in Easthampton.

Courtney Moriarty went 3-for-4 and Maddie Spencer-Orrell struck out 12 in the circle for the Hoggers (7-5).


K of C League

Jim Koldis recorded a plus-6 for top point quota in the Knights of Columbus Golf League on Wednesday night at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.

Steve Brown, Steve Ciechomski and Bill Randall all finished second at plus-2.

John O’Riley was closest to the pin on No. 7 (7 feet , 2 inches) and Bill Brown was closest on No. 9 (8-6).
