Bulletin Board: Elks slip past Kaz, 3-2
Graham Pezzatti singled home Bailey Young in the bottom of the eighth inning to help Montague Elks Lodge edge St. Kazimierz Society, 3-2, in a Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game at Gamelin Field in Turners Falls.
Pezzatti also earned the pitching win in relief of Young. They combined to strike out 15.
Trevor Lapinski and Gavin Rubio singled for the winners.
Tim Fritz and David Carey both slapped two hits, and Kyle Brunelle added a single for Kaz.
Brunelle, David Carey and losing hurler Jake Dodge combined for 15 strikeouts.
• Elsewhere, Justin Dobias and Connor Waitkus each pitched three innings and combined to strike out nine to lead Pipione’s Sport Shop to a 13-2 victory over Booska’s Flooring at Campbell Field.
Jon Fritz and Waitkus each finished with two hits in the win, while Dobias smacked a double. Carson Carlisle, Caden Lamontagne and Dan Kidwell each added a hit in the win.
Colby Mailloux finished with a double, triple and one RBI in the loss.
Lucas Upham went 3-for-3 with a grand slam Monday and the Erving Eagles defeated Winchester, N.H., 27-13, in a Tri-County League Major Division baseball game in Winchester.
Jared Bergmann went 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs in the win, and Jakob Burnett finished with three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.
Thomas Kurkolonis went 3-for-3 with a home run to lead Poplar Hill to a 18-3 win over Yankee Candle in a Frontier Cal Ripken Major Division baseball game Monday night in Sunderland.
Josiah Boyden, Colin Petis, Tyler Baranoski combined to strike out 17 in the win.
Olivia Veciellio played well defensively at catcher in the loss.
Frontier middies win
Ella Deane went 2-for-4 with a triple and Frontier Middle School defeated Greenfield Middle School, 21-7, in softball action Monday at Zabek Field in South Deerfield.
Caitlin Devine added a two-run single for Frontier, which finished with 12 hits. Lauren Davenport pitched well for Frontier and finished with one strikeout. Davenport pitched the final three innings without allowing a run and set Greenfield down in order in the final two innings. She was helped out by a strong effort from the defense.
Audrey Bresciano went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Greenfield.
John “JJ” Kells registered his seventh career hole-in-one on Monday.
Kells used a 7-iron to ace the 144-yard, par-3 second hole at the Country Club of Greenfield.
James Worden and Ernie Patnode witnessed the feat.
Mark K Memorial Mixed
Fred Llewelyn, Don Roy, Lori Davis, Rob Lapointe and Rod Roberge shot a 66 to win the Mark K Memorial Mixed Golf League on Monday evening at Oak Ridge Golf Club in Gill.
Winston Powell, John Davis, Tim Richter and Sue O’Neil placed second at 67.
Frontier 10s drop two
Brady Burch finished with one goal and one assist Sunday but Frontier suffered a 4-2 loss to Westfield in a Pioneer Valley Junior Soccer League Under-10 Division game in Wilbraham.
Jake Whitney scored once in the loss. Payton Sladeski played well defensively in front of goalie Dylan Martin, who finished with 13 saves.
• On Saturday, Sladeski scored on an assist from Burch but Frontier suffered a 3-1 loss to Southwick in Wilbraham.
Cameron Wrisley and Dylan Robinson each played well on defense in front of goalie Jesse Johansmeyer, who stopped 16 shots.
Northfield Mount Hermon School scored 12 times in the fourth inning to pull away from Deerfield Academy en route to a 24-10 prep softball victory Monday afternoon at Crossley Field in Gill.
Maddie Spencer-Orrell earned the win for NMH (5-4), while Steph Collins suffered the loss for Deerfield (1-4).
