Bulletin Board: Miner whiffs 14 for GMS

Nicole Miner struck out 14 in seven innings to lead Greenfield Middle School to a 9-8 win over Pioneer Valley Middle School in a softball game Thursday in Greenfield.

Greenfield scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind for the win. Samantha Smith launched a two-run home run to end the game on a walk-off. Smith finished with two hits, two runs scored and the two RBIs in the game. Audrey Bresciano doubled, scored once and drove in a pair of runs for Greenfield, while Lexxie Rowell singled and plated a run.

Olivia Young belted a pair of home runs for Pioneer, driving in six of the Panthers’ runs.


Legion tryouts

Players can still preregister to play for the American Legion Senior and Junior division teams.

Tryouts for both teams will take place at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield on May 3 and May 4, with the Senior Legion team starting at 1 p.m. each day, and the Junior Legion program beginning at 2:45.

Players should bring birth certificates, gloves and cleats to practice.

Greenfield Junior League

The Greenfield Junior Tennis League is accepting registrations for the upcoming season.

The league is open from June 19 through Aug. 7 for boys and girls in grades 6 through 12, meeting on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Davis Street courts.

Josh Sharma finished with 11 kills and eight blocks on Wednesday to lead Northfield Mount Hermon School to a 25-13, 25-18, 26-24 boys’ prep volleyball victory over Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham.

NMH is now 3-1 on the season.
