Recorder production system, Website upgraded

If you have visited before, you will notice the look has changed and that we have added many new features.

Our print publication and the online edition of The Recorder are produced by our editorial staff using a new, state-of-the-art content management system built by Digital Technology International. This investment represents a commitment by The Recorder’s parent company, Newspapers of New England, to continue to provide residents of Franklin County with an independent, reliable source of community news both in print and online.

You can access not only on your computer, but also on smart phones, iPads and other electronic tablets. Added features include expanded local news coverage, an expanded arts and entertainment calendar, video, breaking news and will soon add Talkback, where you can comment on news stories and events.

With these expanded digital features, The Recorder will be changing its online subscription plans. As an added value for Recorder home-delivered print subscribers, you will continue to have access to all of our online products. This includes our Tecnavia electronic edition, an exact replica of the printed Recorder.

Online readers who are not print subscribers will be asked to register to read five local news stories each month at no charge, or pay for unlimited access.

We are offering several different pricing options for digital-only subscribers. You will also be required to register if you wish to comment on news stories.

The new website includes a live news headline feed from wire services and other sources, more photos, and an easy-to-search online calendar. Our new website will remain your destination for the weather forecast and obituaries. You will have access to our specialty niche products, Valley Kids, Healthy Life, Going Green and Outdoor Adventure. provides a valuable place for our advertisers. Our old site was the most used local website, with over 50,000 unique users per month, and it just got better. We expect to continue our growth in the digital world.

The Recorder’s new content management system uses cloud computing technology. This makes it easier for our editorial staff to update and manage our website. It also gives us the ability to publish the Recorder from other locations in case of power outages or other production disruptions.

We want you to test drive our new website and encourage feedback on what you think and how we can continue to serve our readers.

Whether you read us in print, online, or both, we appreciate your support and welcome your comments.
