Letter: Least we can do

I was impressed with Joe Graveline’s “My Turn” article (Nov. 13) concerning the preservation of native people’s burial grounds (locally, passing a “Native American Burial Site Protection Ordinance”). Considering the lies and disrespect afforded these people from the beginning of the European presence in this land, it seems to me that passing this ordinance is the very least we in Greenfield can do. Granted, this ordinance will not come near to “righting the wrongs” done to the first people but would be a symbol of our willingness to begin.

I challenge our town leaders. Please do not dismiss this issue as only a “tool to fight development.” Please give it the serious consideration it is due.
