Letter: Hawley’s direction
Hussain Hamdan’s letter (May 9) saddens and surprises me. He is a young man with much promise who feels aggrieved for reasons which are not clear to me. He makes vague accusations against Hawley town government but refuses to name any of them.
I do not think that many people in town feel as Hussain does. The last two elections are proof of this pudding. I spoke with many people in town in the past couple of months and was enormously impressed by the thoughtful intelligence and desire to see the town move forward which they displayed.
Any citizen of Hawley who has doubts about the way Hawley is currently being run should attend the SelectBoard and other town meetings and judge for themselves.
I feel very encouraged about the way things are going in Hawley. Committees appointed by the SelectBoard are reviewing the town by-laws and drafting job descriptions for appointed and elected officials with input from those holding those positions. The Finance Committee is scheduling the first audit the town has had in six years. The town website is up and running. After many difficulties we are addressing town business in a positive, constructive spirit and many residents are now involved in town government. In my view, we have moved past much animosity. I wish that Hussain could feel the same way.
