Letter: People behind the inn

What a pleasure to read the supplement devoted entirely to the Northfield Inn and Chateau. Although I live in the Berkshires now, my sisters are kind enough to send along articles of interest now and then about Northfield, the town we were blessed to grow up in.

While the article brought forward fond memories and even new stories of the inn from Ed Finch’s recollections, I couldn’t help but think about all of the other people who contributed so much to the inn’s success for so many years who were omitted from the account, not the least of which were my parents, Bill Potter, CIA graduate, who served not only as chef, but also like Ed Finch, as manager of the inn for many years, and Phyllis Potter, who served as dining room manager and hostess.

So many others, too, remain steadfastly planted in my mind as devoted employees and town residents, who deserved to be remembered, too: Larry and Cynthia Goller, Jerry and Jeanette Tessier, June Ross and the many bakers who sweetened our lives with splendid desserts and warm crullers.

While not as famous as some of the guests mentioned in the article, they spent most of their adult lives in service to the inn and all served to create the most blissful of memories for guests and families alike.
