Letter: More sidewalk safety

Ms. Hare, thank you for the supportive feedback in your Jan. 18 letter. Also glad you got the word out about the barriers to your pedestrian travels.

I strolled down the next day with my shovel and ice breaker to check your route. The recent thaw melted most of the snow and ice on the sidewalk sections you mentioned; there was some thick ice in the crosswalk entrance in front of the Morgan-Allen House that I removed. As of this letter, your path is now clear.

There were a few puddles of meltwater on High Street that will become slick ice when freezing weather returns. Property owners are responsible for treating these — the town has free sand available for residents at the DPW facility on Wells Street.

Safe and happy walking!
