Letter: Sandy relief
The devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy to neighboring states of Massachusetts will be felt by their resident’s for a long time to come but some of us here in Western Massachusetts have decided to do something to help ease some of the burden.
Please join our Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort and make donations of nonperishable food, clothing for all genders/sizes, diapers, wipes, feminine products, trash bags, batteries, work gloves and cleaning supplies just to name a few. We will be collecting these items on Friday, Nov. 9, at Blessed Sacrament Church parking lot between 4 and 5 p.m., Turners Falls High School parking lot between 6 and 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Mohawk Trail Regional High School between 11 a.m. and noon. We have a donated FedEx truck for transportation and many stand-by vehicles should we be fortunate enough to fill the first truck.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, a convoy of people spanning across western Massachusetts will be delivering the items donated to the towns of West Babylon and Lindenhurst, Long Island where friends and family of the Muenkels and Rodes reside and have been affected by Sandy. The West Babylon Fire Department and Our Lady of Grace Parish in West Babylon have graciously agreed to be the dropping off point and we hope to be able to lend a hand cleaning up the homes and streets of those areas but will not know until we get there whether we will be granted clearance to do so.
We encourage everyone to coordinate the same efforts for their loved ones in other areas that have been affected and thank the Franklin County community in advance for their generosity. We look forward to seeing you this weekend at one location or another!
