Letter: EMS garage
I am very concerned about the article in The Recorder titled “Northfield EMS eyes garage.”
Some of my concerns are:
If the Northfield Fire Station is such a disaster why is it that the fire trucks are housed there and why hasn’t the building inspector condemned it?
Is it economically wise to spend money to retro a rental property for a temporary purpose?
I realize going to the ZBA is just the first step, but I think it needs more thought.
In Thursday’s Recorder article titled “Northfield EMS just a signature away from having its own station” really seems to be putting things on the fast track.
Is this facility large enough to handle a department with 27 members AND two ambulances? To my knowledge there is no town sewer, what is the condition of the septic system? Who will pay for repairs if necessary?
Who will pay for ongoing maintenance of the building?
Who will pay the insurance?
Who will pay for snow removal?
There is no doubt we need a new Safety Complex to house the Fire, Police & EMS departments. In order for this to become a reality we need thought, planning & money. What we don’t need is the individual departments going out on their own!
