Letter: Subsidized bus trips
I am writing this letter to residents of Colrain because I believe our tax money should NOT be spent to subsidize bus trips for the elderly or for anyone other than students enrolled at our schools. If the economy was booming I would not complain about providing $50 per person, but we need every penny for our school, library, fire department, and town roads. The Colrain Council on Aging has $20,000 to spend this year. According to our Town Coordinator, the town has not set guidelines for the COA.
I have been asking older residents I saw at the P.O. and library and so far … Nobody wants our tax dollars spent for such events. The COA should apply for grant money. Yes, I am over 55. If I was attending an event, I would pay cash, my cash. Our tax dollars should be spent on necessities, not bus tours. If you plan to go, please do not accept tax support for this bus trip. Thank You.
