Letter: Playing along

Playing along

I decided to play a little game with the Brown/Warren debate tonight. It was one of those drinking games, and I made the rule that every time she said “Subsidy” and “Oil company” in the same breath I would take a drink.

I also decided using Lipton Ice Tea would be better, since it’s Thursday and Friday is a work day.

Good choice.

Within 15 minutes she uttered the trigger phrase something like six times. I’m not really much of a drinker, so this amount of alcohol would have sent me reeling. Why can’t this woman seem to grasp the concept of what is a subsidy? Does she really not know a subsidy is a payment? She’s supposed to be a Harvard Law professor, I would think that she might have a clue what constitutes a subsidy. It seems she does know what a payment is; she is paid a salary of $300,000 a year to teach one course (perhaps the students should demand refunds?), and she also advised a Hartford-based insurance giant to not pay Asbestos workers for their illness. Brown’s in a company’s pocket? Indeed.

At the end, right at the cutoff, she declared that Brown was collecting money from Republicans all around the country, but the Springfield (Sunday) Republican recently ran an article that said she was collecting most of her revenue from out of state, while Scott Brown was collecting most of his from donations within the state.

I also notice people are still calling it the “Ted Kennedy” seat. Sen. Kennedy was known as the “Lion of the Senate.” In the unfortunate event Ms. Warren does win the election, will she henceforth be known as the “Liar of the Senate”?

I guess if you’re disingenuous about one or two things, you might as well be about all things.
