Letter: Backing Maura Healey
The Massachusetts attorney general serves as the people’s lawyer. There is no candidate with more experience and knowledge for this public advocate position than Maura Healey. For seven years, Maura helped lead the Attorney General’s Office, directing the major civil rights and consumer protection cases and overseeing 250 attorneys and staff. Maura successfully fought DOMA and protected the right to marriage equality.
She took on the big banks and predatory lending practices and made Massachusetts the first state where it is illegal to sell unaffordable mortgages. Her work in establishing HomeCorp helped stop foreclosures for thousands of Massachusetts families. She enforced and defended the buffer zone law to protecting women’s health care.
Maura Healey is a progressive Democrat who, from day one, is ready to lead the fight to protect our families and stand up for the rights of every Massachusetts resident. She is supported by Senate Majority Leader Stanley Rosenberg and many others who understand that this critical position can, and should, make a difference in the lives of ordinary citizens.
As law enforcement officials, we know how Maura will lead on criminal justice reform and combat prescription drug and opiate abuse. She also has a bold plan to reduce gun violence and address its root causes.
Maura was part of the team of leaders who developed student safety legislation to address school bullying. She is the only candidate that has served as a civil rights and prosecutor. Her passion for justice and experience will lead the fight for social justice and equality that only a seasoned advocate can successfully fight.
Please join us in voting for Maura Healey on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
