Hi 27° | Lo 17°

Letter: Anderson for rep

My wife, Karen Anderson, candidate for State Representative, and I are celebrating our anniversary this year ... our 25th. The time has flown to where we find ourselves today.

I remember how beautiful Karen looked in her borrowed wedding dress as she walked down the aisle. We spent our one-night honeymoon at the Red Roof Inn just outside Buffalo on our way back to Chicago so we could get back to work and school. Most folks don’t realize we only made $6.50/hour back then as an intern at US Steel. We definitely knew how to use a calculator when at the grocery store!

Then we bought our first house, a small two-bedroom, in Hammond, Indiana. Karen helped organize a neighborhood block party for our street with the mayor in attendance.

As our family grew with six children and we moved to Orange in 1996, Karen, you never failed in your considerable responsibilities, even as you helped care for another family’s child with cerebral palsy, or had to step in to provide daily care for our grandparents, or even helped in the direction of your nephews when their mother, your sister, died in an auto accident.

But through the years what impressed me most is that people are drawn to you as a natural leader. Folks from all walks of life seek to talk to you. Could it be your looks, your kindness? It wasn’t your money because we both didn’t have any when we married. I believe it is because people can relate to you as you view each individual as a person of quality because you have been on the front lines of life.

As other political candidates seek endorsements, let me be one of the many voters to give you my full endorsement on your pursuit to make Massachusetts a better place for our neighbors and fellow citizens to live and thrive as your motto ‘Someone Kare-n For You’ accurately describes you.

Happy Anniversary, Karen.
