Letter: Smoking boundaries
Recently, I spoke with a gentleman on Union Street, who was sitting in a chair smoking a cigarette on the outer limits of the Senior Center property. I asked him why he was sitting on the sidewalk and he told me smokers cannot be anywhere on Senior Center property. He said tenants would report him, if he was even three feet inside the boundary. RIDICULOUS!
Smokers must drag their chairs almost 100 yards to no-man’s land, just to enjoy a smoke ... or get reported to the establishment. OUTRAGEOUS! The people who built and made this town great get treated like children over a distance of three feet. I guess where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise ..., said Mark Twain.
Suggestion, Town Fathers: How about placing a park bench (or two) between the sidewalk and the Union Street curb for our beloved citizens, who enjoy a smoke, as a THANK YOU for their service to the community.
Spoken from my smoking heart,
MSG. JIM LAPSERITIS,
