Letter: Train track danger

Regardless of the merits of Katie Sachs’ music, I am appalled at the publication of her publicity photo in The Recorder. Sitting on an active railroad track can get you killed, and the use of a photo in which Katie is doing exactly that, is irresponsible and sets a bad example. Just a month ago, a camera assistant was killed and four others were injured while they were filming on railroad tracks in Georgia.

A train coasting downhill can approach more quietly than you think. It can take a mile for a train to stop, and by the time the engineer sees you and blows the horn, it may be too late for you to gather up your equipment and get off the line. Railroad themes are fine for photographs, but please don’t glamorize dangerous behavior around railroad tracks.
