Letter: Limits already in place
In his Feb. 11 letter, Paul Abrahams of Deerfield stated that although he disagreed with term limits for elected officials, he favored term limits on legislative leadership positions.
The Massachusetts Legislature has already done just that.
Almost 20 years ago, the Massachusetts Senate imposed an eight-year limit on the Senate president, and, more recently, the House of Representatives instituted the same eight-year limit on the speaker’s position.
And since the Senate president and speaker of the House appoint other top positions in their respective bodies, leadership turnover is guaranteed at least every eight years.
