Letter: Demolish these 3
There are three conspicuous derelict buildings in Greenfield that need to be removed: the old Candlelight Motel on Mohawk Trail, the burnt-out apartment house a little north of Ruggieri’s Package Store on Deerfield Street, and the old gray house at the corner of Russell and Washington streets. All three are boarded up.
They are unsightly and a detraction to the neighborhood at best, and a dangerous hazard at worst. I have long been reading announcements about the pending demolition of the first two of these, yet nothing has happened. As to the third, it’s conceivable that it could be restored, but that seems unlikely since it’s been sitting vacant for years.
If no one else will act, the town should condemn them, demolish them at its own expense, and bill the property owners for the cost.
