Letter: Let’s continue progress
My two children are enrolled in the Greenfield Public Schools. This was not always the case. I made the decision to enroll them this past year, only after witnessing the tremendous progress that has been made over the last four years. The many stimulating initiatives from within individual schools, and countless programs driven by the current administration have allowed for changes like mixed classrooms and specialty schools (like the Math and Science Academy, and the Discovery School) to take root. This has turned the entire school system around. This is the direct result of the current administration and the board that supports them. My understanding is that prior to 2008, the board was in a very different place and I do not want to risk returning to that environment.
I am highly invested, both as a parent and a homeowner, in allowing this recent progress to continue. The balance on the current school board and the way they work with the administration is essential, and has allowed enrollment to be at an all time high. I am not sure others are aware, but while other school districts are laying off teachers and cutting electives, Greenfield Public schools are adding programs and electives and keeping their teachers in their jobs. This a very deliberate result of current policy.
To ensure ongoing progress and continued growth of our beloved schools, we need a strong and balanced board. I strongly encourage all Greenfield voters to endorse Donna Gleason as a write-in candidate in Tuesday’s election to ensure that this continues. Please support her as a school board member.
