Letter: Introducing my candidacy
My name is Dylan Korpita and I am excited to announce my candidacy for state representative in the 1st Franklin District, to represent the towns of: Ashfield, Buckland, Chester, Chesterfield, Conway, Cummington, Deerfield, Goshen, Huntington, Leverett, Middlefield, Montague, Plainfield, Shelburne, Shutesbury, Sunderland, Whately, Williamsburg and Worthington.
I grew up in Deerfield and attended Deerfield Elementary, Frontier Regional and then Deerfield Academy. I caught fish from Bardwells Ferry to the Quabbin Reservoir, and threw fastballs from Haydenville to Turners Falls. I worked summer for Korpita Masonry, and the desire to do every job like my name is on the door of the truck has never left me.
After graduating from Princeton University in 2001, I spent most of the next 12 years living in New York City and working in finance. I moved back to Deerfield last year and have enjoyed reconnecting with the people and communities of this area, while starting to learn about the issues facing our towns and state.
I am running for state representative because I am at a point in my life where I have benefitted from the hard work of my family before me, the education system and community around me and the challenges and opportunities in front of me. I want to make sure that everyone has that same chance to strive, to learn, to take risks: to improve their lives and fulfill the promises of life and liberty that this great country was founded upon.
I am a socially progressive and fiscally responsible Republican, and am eager for the opportunity to articulate my positions further. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the next eight months, with the aim of earning your trust and your vote.
There are serious, complex challenges that our elected officials will face over the coming years, and I want to do my part in facing them. I bring hard-won expertise in a number of fields, but more importantly I bring the kind of heartfelt passion and intellectual curiosity that will best represent our community and lead our state forward.
The general election will take place on Nov. 4. Feel free to contact me at 413-376-5522 or Dylan.Korpita@gmail.com.
