Support group on aging starts Sept. 30
SOUTH DEERFIELD — A free support group called “Living Fully, Aging Gracefully, and Befriending Death” will begin on Monday, Sept. 30, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the South County Senior Center, 67 N. Main St., South Deerfield.
The group will meet every other Monday night through April of next year.
The facilitator is John Berkowitz of Northampton, a retired environmental and economic justice activist and human services worker who has led two similar groups in the past two years.
The group will offer a safe and supportive environment for participants to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences about the joys and challenges of aging, dealing with grief and loss, and reaching a deeper understanding and acceptance of death. Participants in previous groups expressed how helpful it was for them to have such conversation with others on a regular basis.
Reading and discussion of key segments of books and articles, along with watching videos on these topics, will add to the discussion. Poetry, prose writing, and songs — either written by participants or by their favorite authors and artists — are also welcome to be shared.
