Whately seeks budget boost of $218,708

WHATELY — Taxpayers may have to pay an extra $218,708 for next year, according to the draft town budget.

The proposed budget for the budget that takes effect July 1 is $4,640,016.

The biggest increase is the school costs.

The Whately Elementary School budget is $1,555,166. The School Committee has proposed spending $38,040, or 2.5 percent, more than this year.

The town’s share for the Frontier Regional School is $882,016. This is an increase of $17,233.

The town’s costs for Franklin County Technical School also increased by $8,969 to $133,732.

Meanwhile, the Highway Department wants to spend $7,847 more. The proposed budget is $346,402.

The Fire Department has asked for $46,919, an increase of $1,408.

The police budget is $171,219, an increase of $8,220.
