Preliminary tax bills mailed in Sunderland

SUNDERLAND — The town’s preliminary property values for Fiscal Year 2014 are available for review at the Town Office and library.

The state Department of Revenue has granted preliminary certification of Sunderland’s property values. FY2014’s proposed values are changed only slightly from the Fiscal Year 2013, with the general trend being that land is valued slightly lower than it was previously, according to Assessor Lee Whitcomb.

Towns are required to update property values periodically so that tax assessments reflect market values and the slower real estate market activity in recent years

The proposed values will be available for review by the public until Dec. 3 at the Town Office Building and Sunderland Public Library. Property owners may also visit the assessors’ office during their regular business hours on Mondays noon to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays noon to 4 p.m.

Following this public review, the FY2014 taxable values will be finalized. Tax bills will be mailed out in late December, for payment by April 1, 2014.
