Frontier community to hold tribute for former principal

SUNDERLAND — On Sunday, the southern Franklin County community will hold a tribute to the late Sunderland Elementary School Principal Timothy Merritt.

Teachers, students and residents of the towns of Sunderland, Deerfield, Whately and Conway will join at 3 p.m. in the Frontier Regional School auditorium to honor the popular principal.

Merritt died unexpectedly on Sept. 28.

He worked as an English teacher and drama coach at Frontier Regional School from 2000 to 2009. In 2009, Merritt was named interim principal of Sunderland Elementary and appointed to the permanent position in 2010.

Over the years, Merritt became known for his music skills as he often played guitar and sang throughout the school year and for his commitment to the country’s servicemen and women.
