Tech School win prizes in SkillsUSA conference

TURNERS FALLS — Fifteen Franklin County Technical School students participated in the SkillsUSA Fall State Leadership Conference this year in Marlborough and won a variety of prizes.

The students competed with 579 of their peers from schools throughout Massachusetts, according to the school. Students competed in a variety of team events, assisted in a service project for the Hopkinton YMCA and worked to earn pins signifying mastery in SkillsUSA knowledge and leadership qualities.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization behind the annual competitions, sometimes described by local vocational instructors as the MCAS of technical education.

Approximately 70 Franklin County Technical School students will participate in the next event, the Western District 6 SkillsUSA Conference at McCann Technical High School in North Adams, in March.

The following FCTS students competed in the SkillsUSA Fall State Leadership Conference:

Stephen Carlton of Greenfield, Culinary Arts — Third Place ribbon in Overall Team Quality.

Colton Tarbox of Wendell, Programming and Web Design — silver medal in total quality management, sixth place ribbon in overall team quality.

Brandan Tarbox of Wendell, Machine Technology — silver medal in membership promotion, second place ribbon in overall team quality.

Lindsey Malloux of Erving, Cosmetology — bronze medal for team profile, second place ribbon in overall team quality and second place in talent show.

Rayanne Mercure of Turners Falls, Culinary Arts — gold medal for membership promotion, fourth place ribbon in overall team quality.

Anna Vasquez-Wright of Colrain, Health Technology — fourth place ribbon in overall team quality.

Julia Lingwall of Sunderland, Plumbing and Heating — silver medal in total quality management, sixth place ribbon in overall team quality.

Lauren Hansen of Leverett, Health Technology — bronze medal for team profile, second place ribbon in overall team quality.

Samantha Hayes of Orange, Collision Repair and Refinishing — fifth place ribbon in overall team quality.

Alyssa Gaudet of Orange, Cosmetology — most improved leadership award, third place ribbon in overall team quality.

Trevor Blake of Northfield, Electrical — gold medal for total quality management, first place ribbon for overall team quality.

Steven Easton of Bernardston, Electrical — bronze medal in membership promotion, first place ribbon in overall team quality.

Elizabeth Saulnier of Greenfield, Health Technology — fifth place ribbon in overall team quality.

Cheyenne Edwards of Greenfield, Electrical — third place ribbon in overall team quality.

Hailey Lowell of Wendell, Machine Technology — seventh place ribbon in overall team quality.
