GCC to host information session on personal trainer certification tonight
GREENFIELD — Anyone interested in learning what it takes to become a certified personal trainer can attend a free orientation and information session tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Greenfield Community College’s main campus.
The nine-week class will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings, beginning Sept. 23, for students to work toward their certification. The Virginia-based World Instructor Training Schools will teach the course and proctor the national exam in the final week.
The 62-hour program includes 16 hours in the classroom, 16 lab hours and a 30-hour internship. Topics include biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessment.
According to the World Instructor Training Schools, the profession earns an average of $34 an hour.
The course costs $734, plus a textbook. Training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and with automated external defibrillators (AED) is needed to receive the certificate.
