Mohawk planning group to hold first meeting
BUCKLAND — The first meeting of a new Long-Range Planning Committee for the Mohawk Trail Regional School District will be held on Thursday in the upstairs Town Hall meeting room, beginning at 7 p.m.
The committee was born out of this spring’s budget process, and out of concerns that the 250-square-mile district, with its declining student enrollment, is over-spending its rainy day savings and may be heading for its own “financial cliff” in a couple of years, as Superintendent Michael Buoniconti put it.
Each of the eight Mohawk member towns was to appoint a selectman or other representative to this board, for discussions on how to avert fiscal crisis.
In this organizational meeting, the group is to elect a chairman and secretary, discuss its mission, goals and objectives, establish working guidelines and set the next meeting date.
