Country Grooming reopens
Jan McMahon grooms a customer in her home-based shop on the Mohawk Trail.
SHELBURNE — Jan McMahon of Country Grooming is back in business, after a fire ruined her shop on Nov. 30.
With help from friends, family and customers, Jan and Paul McMahon converted a ground-level recreation room in their home into a temporary pet-grooming center.
“We had many, many people who have offered to help,” said McMahon. “There was plumbing, remodeling and lighting that we had to do. Some of our customers bought us stable mats, as padding for the floor. My husband has reframed the area and put in my industrial sink from the shop, and one of my friends moved a lot of our equipment.”
McMahon said the building was not insured, although some of the destroyed equipment was covered by homeowner’s insurance.
“People have been quite generous and helpful,” she said. “Now that I’ve opened again, I’m looking forward to getting caught up.”
The home-based shop is located at 1548 Mohawk Trail, near the Greenfield-Shelburne town line, and McMahon grooms dogs Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. on, with appointments required. For an appointment, call 625-9400.
The McMahons hope to rebuild their original shop and eventually move the grooming businesses back there.
