Hawlemont principal hired

CHARLEMONT — In November, Montague Elementary School Assistant Principal Tavis J. Yagodzinski will become principal for the Hawlemont Regional School, school Superintendent Michael Buoniconti announced.

But school families can meet their new principal at the Hawlemont Regional School open house tonight from 6 to 7 p.m.

Yagodzinski has been an assistant principal and Title I director for the Gill-Montague Regional School District since 2011.

Before working in the Gill-Montague district, Yagodzinski was an administrative intern at the Forest Avenue Elementary School in Hudson, in 2009-10. He also worked at that school as a fourth-grade teacher during the 2010-11 school year.

According to his resume, Yagodzinski has a master’s degree in education from Lesley University in Cambridge and a bachelor’s degree in education from Assumption College in Worcester.

He taught fifth-grade math and science from 2002 to 2004 in Shrewsbury, and taught science and theater classes for the Shrewsbury Summer Enrichment Program from 2003 to 2010.

According to Buoniconti, Yagodzinski will begin working full time at Hawlemont starting Nov. 5. However, he will be working one day a week with current Principal Emma Svoboda to transition into his new job.

Svoboda, who has been principal of Hawlemont for two years, is moving into a new position within the Mohawk/Hawlemont/Rowe superintendent’s central office as director of curriculum and assessment for grades kindergarten through Grade 6.

Her new position was announced this summer, although Svoboda had agreed to stay on as Hawlemont principal until a new principal was hired.
