Mahar’s 8th cancer walk planned for Oct. 19
ORANGE — The eighth annual Mahar Cancer Walk will take place on Oct. 19.
The charity raises money for gasoline cards for cancer patients who must travel out of town for therapy.
The walk will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Mahar Regional School track behind the school, at 507 S. Main St. The public is invited. A survivor lap will take place at 11 a.m. Any cancer survivor who wishes to participate is welcome. There will be small gifts for participants, music, balloons, food and beverages, and a silent auction.
This walk has raised approximately $14,000 in the past seven years to support about 150 families. There are no administrative fees associated with this fundraiser. No one earns a salary, and supplies for the walk are provided by the volunteers.
Organizers are also looking for business donations. Donors who give $25 or more will be acknowledged on a banner to be hung on the track for the day. Personal donations are also accepted. Donations may be sent to the Mahar Cancer Walk Committee at the school, checks made payable to Mahar Cancer Walk, to arrive by Oct. 19.
