Town Hall forum to address local foreclosures
ORANGE — On Oct. 24, state Rep. Denise Andrews will collaborate with a number of local organizations to host a forum on the issue of foreclosures across the region. Partners include the Franklin County Regional Housing and Redevelopment Authority, RCAP Solutions, HAP Housing and Boston Community Capital’s SUN Foreclosure Prevention Program. The forum will be take place at the Athol Town Hall, 584 Main St. in Athol and will begin at 6 p.m.
Since the start of the recession four years ago, the North Quabbin region has been hit harder than many areas in Massachusetts by foreclosures and declining home values. Without having received much respite thus far, many homeowners are still underwater on their mortgages.
According to Franklin County Register of Deeds, there have been 69 completed foreclosures in Franklin County since January. During the same period, 132 “Orders of Notice,” a first step in the foreclosure process, were also recorded.
Anyone currently in the process of foreclosure, nervous about the possibility or simply having trouble paying off his or her mortgage is encouraged to attend. Social service agencies have also been invited.
The invited agency will speak about foreclosure prevention programs and explain how they can assist homeowners. After the presentations, those in attendance will have the opportunity to meet individually with program representatives to discuss their current situations and begin looking at ways to remedy them.
Borrowers in immediate need can call the HomeCorps hotline at 617-573-5333 to be connected with an advocate. More information is available at www.mass.gov/ago/homecorps .
