Orange public libraries announce summer reading club

ORANGE — The Wheeler Memorial Library in downtown Orange and the Moore-Leland Library in North Orange along with the Friends of the Orange Public Libraries want to get you reading this Summer for a good cause. Join the Library and the Friends as they partner with the North Quabbin Community Co-op in providing member shares to local families in need. The reading club started June 23 and will run through Aug. 23.

“The more books we read, the more member shares we can provide to the folks in our community who need it most.” said Manuel King, head of adult services at the Wheeler Memorial Library. “The North Quabbin Community Co-op (soon to be moving to the former Workers’ Credit Union in downtown Orange) is the best place in the region to find healthy, nutritious and locally grown food at an honest price. We’re proud to be partnering with an organization that puts our community and local farmers first. We welcome all our adult patrons at the Wheeler and everyone of any age at the Moore-Leland to join the club so we can reach of goal of 480 books read this summer!”

The co-op plans to have a tent on the lawn in front of the Moore-Leland Library in North Orange on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for food demonstrations with the new Co-op manager, Julie Robinson, kid’s art-making with Nina Wellen and Manuel King, as well as information about how local folks can join the co-op to become member owners.

As a reward for reading books from either library this summer, participants will be entered into a raffle for every book they read, with chances to win Big E tickets or $30.00 gift certificates from either the food coop or Bruce’s Browser.

The club complements the already existing Children’s Summer Reading Club that is taking place downstairs in the Children’s Room of the Wheeler Memorial Library. This wonderful program has weekly and special events planned throughout the summer and all are free.

For more information about any of these Summer Reading Clubs, call the Wheeler Memorial library at 978-544-2495 or the Moore-Leland Library at 978-575-0444 or visit www.orangelib.org.
