CPA forum in Northfield tonight

NORTHFIELD — Just what do you get for the half-percent CPA surcharge on your property taxes? And what is CPA, anyway?

An information session at 7 tonight in Town Hall will explain the ins and outs of the Community Preservation Act over light refreshments.

The CPA gives towns the ability to form a Community Preservation Committee, and fund eligible projects with a property tax surcharge.

The program will go over the history of the CPA, as well as the application process. If you’ve got an idea for a CPA project, it’s your chance to learn about the process and meet the committee.

Projects can include recreational land, community housing, historic preservation and open space. CPA money can be used on its own, or to supplement other funds, like grants, donations, or other town dollars.

Recent Northfield projects include restorations at the Dickinson Memorial Library, repairs to the Belcher Fountain and the town clock, and a catalog of historic sites.
