Athol woman facing drug charges after traffic stop
NEW SALEM — An Athol woman was charged with drug possession and speeding Monday after a traffic stop.
At around 1 p.m. Monday, officer Joe Powling stopped a vehicle on Route 202 near the New Salem General Store on a speeding violation, police reported Tuesday. As a result of that stop, Shannon Roberts, 20, of 178 Cummings Road in Athol was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of Suboxone, and speeding, police said.
Assisting in the arrest was New Salem Police Lt. Dave Shoemaker, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Scott Waldron and K9 Drago. Roberts was transported to the Orange District Court, where she was arraigned and later released, pending trial.
