TURNERS FALLS — Where do you live? A local art project asked area residents to answer that question in postcard form late this winter, and the miniature art results are in.

Nearly 200 post cards created by community members will be on display as part of a festive night out in Turners Falls on Thursday.

Turners Falls RiverCulture presents a showing of the 4-by-6-inch cards on the theme of “Where I Live” at a reception in the Colle Opera House, 85 Avenue A, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

RiverCulture Director Lisa Davol wrote the idea was hatched by local artists and residents Jennifer Audley, Pam Allan and Nina Rossi and resulted in postcards being sent in by artists and local residents, students from Montague Elementary After School Art program and Greenfield Center School, Montague Catholic Social Ministries and others.

Audley, Rossi and Allan decided to launch the project after their participation in the Book Rotation Project earlier this year, in which 12 people collaborated on 12 books.

“I like to be a part of the community. This project seems like a natural way to assert our positive identity and welcome diversity in how we see ourselves. Having all the postcards in one place is like all of us holding hands together,” said Rossi, owner of art shop Nina’s Nook, 125 Avenue A

Among the other artists participating is Turners Falls artist Joe Landry, with a three-dimensional mixed media card incorporating photography and stainless steel. Landry’s work is familiar to anyone who has driven past his sculpture-filled front yard on Turners Falls Road.

Participating downtown establishments will be open late with related events or specials.
