Vehicle break-ins reported in Turners
TURNERS FALLS — An overnight rash of vehicle break-ins has police urging residents to lock their doors and be on the lookout.
Police received reports of six car break-ins, in the area of Keith, K, and Davis streets, according to Sgt. Christopher Lapointe. Police believe the break-ins occurred during the early morning hours Tuesday.
Lapointe said all of the cars entered were unlocked. One had credit cards stolen from it, others had cash and change missing, and some were just ransacked, their contents strewn about and nothing clearly missing.
The sergeant attributed the break-ins to the fact that more vehicles are parked on the street after the lifting of the winter parking ban.
“It seems to happen every year, when people let their guard down,” he said. “These are crimes of opportunity.”
Fortunately, said Lapointe, not much of value was taken during the break-ins.
Police urge residents to remove valuables from their vehicles, lock their doors, and report any suspicious behavior.
