2 Turners Falls women in head-on crash
DEERFIELD — A Turners Falls woman was taken to the hospital after a head-on collision on Routes 5 and 10 Thursday.
Police responded to the head-on accident near Yankee Candle Co. at about 3 p.m., and found that one driver was injured and both small cars had sustained heavy damage, according to patrolman Adam Sokoloski.
Susan Bartlett, 59, of Turners Falls, was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by ambulance, Sokoloski said. The patrolman said she did not have any immediately apparent major injuries, but opted to be examined at the hospital.
Bartlett was issued a citation for leaving the proper travel lane, Sokoloski said. She had been driving her Chevrolet Aveo north when the crash occurred.
Bartlett’s car collided with a Honda Fit driven by Karen Tyler, 68, also of Turners Falls. Tyler declined medical treatment. She and Bartlett were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
Police had to close the busy road for about 30 minutes while the wrecked cars were removed, said Sokoloski.
