Pipeline talk reaches Montague govt.

MONTAGUE — Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. has already approached local residents for permission to conduct surveys on their land for a planned natural gas transmission pipeline. On Monday it’s the town government’s turn.

Representatives from Tennessee Gas will be attending Monday’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting, according to Richard Wheatley, a company spokesman, who is based in Texas.

Town Administrator Frank Abbondanzio said selectmen have been asked to sign a construction easement at its 7 p.m. meeting in the Town Hall, for a 200-foot right of way of town-owned land in Millers Falls.

The company is asking for the right to do survey and other work for a feasibility study.

The possible pipeline would run through the county from Ashfield to Orange on its way from upstate New York to eastern Massachusetts.
