Dakin: $5 to adopt a cat
LEVERETT — Now through Sunday it will cost $5 to adopt an adult cat at the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society’s adoption centers in Leverett and Springfield.
All cats 6 months and older will be included in the program.
Candice Lash, manager of marketing and communications for Dakin, said the nonprofit has many cats in need of new homes.
“What’s better than adopting a four-legged feline family member to love?” asked Lash.
Her answer: one that is already spayed or neutered, is microchipped, and has received age-appropriate vaccinations and testing, all for just $5.
Cats will also go to their new homes with a new collar and identification tag, as well as a starter kit of food.
“Dakin is committed to finding good homes and saving lives,” said Executive Director Leslie Harris. “People who come to animal shelters to adopt do so because they want to help save lives, too.”
Harris said adult cats have the greatest need for loving homes, especially this time of year.
Harris said the two adoption centers are full, so she’s hoping the very low adoption fee will motivate people to adopt.
“With people returning from summer vacations, what better time to adopt,” she said.
