Cause ‘undetermined’ in Heath house fire
HEATH — The cause of the fire that destroyed the home of David W. Kratt on April 2 may never be known. The state fire marshal’s office has investigated the fire at 21 Route 8A North and designated the cause as “undetermined.” This means the investigation is over, unless more information about the fire becomes available at a later time.
A passerby reported seeing smoke and flames coming through the roof of the ranch-style home at about 2 p.m. that day. Nine fire departments responded to help extinguish it, but at around 9 p.m., the fire re-ignited and gutted the house.
Heath fire officials were unable to reach Kratt on the day of the fire, but have since been in contact with him, Fire Chief Michael Smith said.
