Candidates night Monday   in Hawley

HAWLEY — With three candidates running for one open selectman’s seat, the town is holding a candidates night on Monday, in Town Office from 7 to 9 p.m. Each candidate is to make a brief statement, then there will be an opportunity for questions from the public.

The three candidates are:

∎ John Sears of Pudding Hollow Road, an historian who has long been active in the Sons and Daughters of Hawley.

∎ Town Treasurer and Tax Collector Charles Stetson, who has also served for several years on the Hawlemont School Committee.

∎  University of Massachusetts prelaw student Hussain Hamdan of West Hawley Road, who is currently serving on the Hawlemont Regional School Committee, and who served as the student representative to the Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee for three years while he was in school there.

The special town election will be held on March 12. The election winner will serve the remainder of the term of Richard Desmarais, who died in December.
