Letter: Re-elect Sears
I’m voting to re-elect for John Sears for Hawley selectman on May 5.
As a property owner, taxpayer, and someone who happens to be “graying a bit,” he understands the needs of a large number of folks in this town. In the past couple of years, he has devoted a large portion of the “gift of time” that comes with retirement to the Town of Hawley. His calm, positive energy has fostered an atmosphere of cooperation on the Board of Selectmen that has allowed the town to get things done. John has participated in the affairs of numerous town boards and committees. By doing so, he has been rapidly getting up to speed on the issues that face our town.
Just one of many examples I could cite: As the chairman of the Conservation Commission, I have gone on a number of lengthy daytime site visits with DEP staff and other state and federal officials as the town has attempted to fix the last of our damaged roads. On several occasions, John has been there as well, advocating for a prompt resolution along with the state and federal dollars that will be required to see these projects through to completion.
While I admire his opponent Hussain Hamdan’s spirit, I fear that as a first-year law student next year, commuting 60 miles each way every day, he simply won’t be available to attend key daytime meetings with state officials that are required from time to time to make sure our voice is heard.
John’s knowledge, patience, experience and persistence … along with being available at the right time and place, are vital to keeping Hawley moving forward.
Do take the time to vote Monday.
